There’s a lot more to dissect here than you’d think. Here’s everything we know so far about Aidan, Carrie and the SATC reboot.
Wait—who is Aidan Shaw, again?
Aidan Shaw (played by John Corbett) was one of Carrie Bradshaw’s long-term boyfriends. He first appeared in Sex and the City the series in Season 3 as a sweet, slightly crunchy furniture maker who loved his dog. Aidan and Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) fell hard for each other, but she ended up cheating on him with her married ex, Mr. Big (Chris Noth). Carrie and Big eventually stopped seeing each other, and Carrie reunited with Aidan down the road. The two even got engaged but ended up breaking things off after Carrie realized she didn’t want to get married.
Where did Aidan and Carrie leave off?
On the HBO series, Aidan briefly reappeared toward the end and revealed that he married a fellow furniture designer named Kathy, with whom he had a baby. It was a quick cameo, but it tied things up nicely for these two. Cut to the movie, Sex and the City 2, and Aidan randomly showed up in Abu Dhabi, where Carrie—who was married to Big at the time—was on a vacation with her girlfriends. The two had dinner together and ended up kissing, but Carrie realized it was a mistake. And that was that for Carrie and Aidan.
Will Aidan be on the Sex and the City revival?
Well, this is huge news. Corbett told Page Six that he will be in the new 10-episode revival. “I’m going to do the show,” he said, adding that he thinks he’ll be in “quite a few” episodes. “I like all those people, they’ve been very nice to me,” he added. Details of what, exactly, he’ll be doing on the show aren’t clear at this point.
Will Aidan and Carrie be together on the SATC reboot?
It’s possible. According to Page Six, Noth’s Mr. Big will not be in the SATC revival. However, Noth was coy when he addressed the report in the comments of one of his Instagram posts. “Well if page six says it… it must be true,” he wrote, with a winking face. He also said, “everything changes—including announcements in the rags.” Regardless, it seems like Mr. Big won’t be a huge player in the reboot. That could mean a few things. The show could kill off Mr. Big, leaving things open for Carrie and Aidan to reunite, or Big could still be married to Carrie (and alive) and just not appear in many scenes. As for Aidan’s role, it’s entirely possible for him to start a relationship with Carrie again, or maybe they’ll just become good friends. But when has Carrie ever needed more friends? But wait, is Carrie moving downtown for the SATC revival?
