After episode 4 offered up a deep dive into Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and his troubled relationship with his mother, Marilyn (Laura Niemi)—a dive so deep, in fact, that present-day Rebecca, Kevin, Randall (Sterling K. Brown)and Kate (Chrissy Metz) were nowhere to be seen—the first preview of This Is Us’ next episode, titled “Heart and Soul,” indicates that we’ll be spending a lot of time in 2022 this coming week. Is there a This Is Us Season 6 episode 5 promo?
The preview (above) that played during episode 4’s closing credits opens with Jack filming Rebecca and a young Kate at the family piano. “We are witnessing history in the making here!” he proudly declares. (Given that episode 5 is titled “Heart and Soul,” we’re guessing that’s the song that mom and daughter will be practicing in this scene.) Then the promo jumps to what looks like sometime in the ballpark of 2008—or at least, that’s what we’re guessing, since we’ve learned from previous seasons that it’s around that time when Rebecca and Miguel became romantically linked. He suggests that she try speed dating, and though we see her resist the idea at first, in the very next shot, they’re entering what looks like a sophisticated bar where the event will take place. We’ve already been told that we’ll find out in Season 6 how Rebecca and Miguel ended up together; is it possible they realized at the speed-dating event that their special someone has been near this whole time? Speaking of potential special someone, we then see Kevin asking Cassidy on the phone, “Why don’t you come out with me to the cabin this weekend? I’d be happy to see you.” The episode 5 preview ends with the latest from another Season 6 storyline we need answers on: What’s up with Déjà and Malik? We see that he’s made the trek to her house to have dinner with her family, where he gets grilled by Randall and wife Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson). “What’s going on? You two have been making eyes at each other,” Beth says to Malik and Déjà at the dinner table. “Spill it! Now!”
What happens on This Is Us Season 6 episode 5?
The logline for “Heart and Soul” doesn’t offer much in the way of a preview; it just states, “Kevin visits the construction site. Malik and Déjà share controversial news at dinner.” However, we now know that Kevin doesn’t just visit the site of the cabin he’s building for his mom; as we just saw in the latest promo, he also invites Cassidy to spend the weekend with him there. This seems to be a continuation of what we saw between Kevin and Cassidy in episode 3, when he texted her in the middle of the night instead of making a booty call. Does Cassidy turn out to be the mystery wife we’ve seen him within the flash-forwards? The way he reached out to Cassidy (who we hadn’t seen since mid-Season 5) felt like a solid indication that she’s still in the running to become Kevin’s future bride. The Déjà and Malik mystery is also a holdover from episodes 2 and 3 from earlier this season, when they had sex for the first time and her parents then found out about it. We know Déjà has a kid in the flash-forwards, so are she and Malik about to tell Randall and Beth that she’s already expecting?
Are there any This Is Us Season 6 episode 5 spoilers?
Huertas has previously talked in interviews about how fans are still wary of the Rebecca-Miguel relationship; however, he’s insisted that once viewers witness exactly how these two fell in love—which, we’re guessing, is something they’ll start to see in episode 5—they’ll become believers. “Rebecca and Miguel coming together is a story we’ve always been excited to tell in the final season,” Huertas said to EW. “I think the audience will understand how something as profound as a relationship between [Jack’s] best friend and [Miguel’s] best friend’s widow could even happen… It’s one of the saddest moments that I’ve felt as a character, as an actor, and even as an audience member and a fan of the show, too. This moment was so tough, so sad, that I think [it] will really help propel people into having their minds open to, ‘Oh my God. We kind of want these two together.’” Huertas has also hinted that Kevin and Cassidy might end up happily ever after. He told TV Insider in January 2021, “I think that Cassidy has a very special place in Kevin’s heart, so I want the audience to definitely read into it.
