Is there a This Is Us Season 6 episode 4 promo?
Manheim’s appearance in the brief promo comes after Jack (MiloVentimiglia) learned at the end of episode 3 that his mom has died. (He receives that news right after taking The Big Three to see An American Tail in theaters, meaning this all happened around 1986.) In the promo for episode 4 (which is titled “Don’t Let Me Keep You”), we see him walk up to the door of a house. Manheim opens it and says with a smirk on her face, “Look who finally showed up. Only took you 13 years.” A few moments later, Jack gets up before a congregation at a church to give his mother’s eulogy—and if you pause at the right moment, you can see that Manheim’s in the front row at the funeral. So who does Manheim play? Well, if we do the math, we know that 13 years before Jack’s mom died would’ve been 1973. That’s right around the time that Jack moved his mom out of his abusive dad’s house… so maybe Manheim plays Jack’s long-lost aunt, possibly on his mom’s side, but perhaps even more likely on his dad’s side?
What happens on This Is Us Season 6 episode 4?
Get the Kleenex ready: Ventimiglia has already spoken at length in interviews about how impactful “Don’t Let Me Keep You” will be—and given what we’ve seen of the episode from the first promo, our best guess is that his eulogy will pack an emotional wallop. “I’ll be honest, it was a very difficult episode to film,” the actor told TV Insider in December 2021. “We haven’t known much about that relationship [between Jack and his mom] after Jack removed her from a bad situation [with his alcoholic father]. We get into some distance that was between them. We know how much he cared about her… It’s interesting to discover what Jack’s emotional break looks like, being the guy who’s the rock.” He also told the outlet that filming episode 4 “really hurt me, like me personally.”
