The Voice tonight recap
The show opened with a performance by Carly Pearce of her hit single “29.” Host Carson Daly then began the countdown of the five artists who made it through to the finale. Wendy Moten from Team Blake was the first to get the good news she was going on through. Next, was a performance by John Legend of his new Christmas tune “You Deserve It All.” Then it was back to the results. The second artist to make it through to the finale was Girl Named Tom, followed by Paris Winningham. There was another entertainment break with Blake taking the stage to perform his latest song “Come Back as a Country Boy.” Then the fourth artist going through was named by Carson: Hailey Mia. That meant that Jershika Maple, Jim and Sasha Allen, Joshua Vacanti and Lana Scott had to perform for the Instant Save for the fifth and final spot in the finale. Lana Scott was up first singing Lainey Wilson’s “Things a Man Ought to Know.” Blake told her: “I think that particular performance encompasses everything you are so good at: your storytelling ability and the personality of the song, which had a little sarcasm and pain, and changing up the melody with a big moment.” Next up was Joshua Vacanti with Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On.” John said: “You have such a beautiful, God-given gift. You approach it with such grace and care and showmanship. Your voice is stunning.” Performing third were Jim and Sasha Allen harmonizing to Darryl Hall & John Oates’s “Rich Girl.” Ariana told them: “I am proud of you. You bring such amazing energy to the show. It is so infectious. It would be a mistake not to have you in the finale.” The final performance of the night was Jershika Maple, singing Tasha Cobbs’ “Break Every Chain.” John said, “You have done it again. You brought yourself to tears, but also America with the power of your voice. I hate that you get put in this position. You are one of the best vocalists on this show. You deserve to go to the finale.”
