The new series is set to be directed by Jason Hehir (Netflix’s The Last Dance, HBO’s André The Giant) and will follow the pop sensation’s rise to fame and international stardom.  In an interview with Australian talkshow The Project, Melanie Brown (A.K.A Mel B and Scary Spice) revealed that the documentary series has been in the works for some time now. “I told Dave [Hughes, fellow The Masked Singer Australia panelist] when the cameras were off that we’ve signed our documentary to the guys that did The Last Dance, and he went and told the whole audience. I think I did say ‘we’ve only just signed it, it hasn’t been announced yet,’ and then he told everyone,” she said. Given Mel’s statement, we can only assume that the documentary became official earlier this summer as Season 4 of The Masked Singer Australia filmed in front of a live audience between June 30th and July 20th.   The pop star also praised Heir’s previous work and expressed excitement for what’s yet to come from the new series—which is said to feature all five Spice Girls (Mel B/Scary Spice, Melanie Chisholm/Sporty Spice, Emma Bunton/Baby Spice, Geri Halliwell/Ginger Spice, and Victoria Beckham/Posh Spice) and include never-before released takes and stories about their time on the top, according to Metro UK.  “The director and the whole concept of how that was shot and filmed was really, really, really, really good; so we’ll be doing our own version with them,” she said.  For those who missed it: Back in 2020, Hehir worked with Netflix on a limited series that documented the career of basketball legend Michael Jordan: The Last Dance. It won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series.  The news comes just a few months shy of the 25th anniversary of the British musical/comedy film Spice World—the smash hit that originally welcomed the icons to the big screen; and shortly after the band announced new music in honor of the 25th anniversary of the 10-times platinum album, Spice, as reported by Nylon. No other information about the project (like a release date or if Columbia Pictures will be involved like it was in 1998) have immediately been made available.  Say you’ll be there–when we share further details about the upcoming docuseries.  More Entertainment:
