Swift nabbed powerhouse vocalist Maren Morristo sing background on the tune. She announced the release Wednesday, March 24, tweeting, “HI. I wanted to let you know that the first ‘From the Vault’ song I’m releasing from Fearless (Taylor’s Version)comes out tomorrow at midnight eastern. It’s called ‘You All Over Me (From the Vault).’” “One thing I’ve been loving about these From The Vault songs is that they’ve never been heard, so I can experiment, play and even include some of my favorite artists,” she added. “I’m really excited to have @MarenMorris singing background vocals on this song!!” Swift also noted that the song was produced by Aaron Dessner, with whom she worked on folkloreand evermore, and cowritten by Scooter Carusoe. Morris replied asking if it was too early for celebratory bubbly. On Thursday morning, Swift released a snippet of the song as a preview on Good Morning America.

Because Swift is releasing “You All Over Me (From the Vault)” on her Fearless (Taylor’s Version) album, it’s estimated she wrote the song around the same time she penned tunes for the original Fearless, released in November 2008. Swift previously explained the motivation behind releasing her “From the Vault” series of tunes. “Only I know which songs I wrote that almost made the Fearless album. Thematically, it has many similar elements to “Clean” from 1989, referring to rain, stains and, of course, the lyric “No amount of freedom gets you clean.” The original “Clean” was a breakup song, which some speculated was about Harry Styles. She’s never confirmed or denied but in an interview, she did say it was about realizing she was over an ex. Fans are calling her new song the “prelude” to “Clean.”
