NSAI Executive Director Bart Herbison, who recalled meeting Swift as a teenager and listening to what would become one of her first big hits, “Tim McGraw,” presented the award to her. Swift gave a touching speech after receiving the honor. Describing the atmosphere of the Nashville Songwriter Awards, she said, “Tonight feels brimming with genuine camaraderie for people who appreciate when a magical cloud appears to create a song that floats into the world to make people feel seen for just one moment,” as reported by The Tennessean. Terry Wyatt/Getty Images The Tennessean shared a short clip of her speech on social media. In the video, Swift described what makes music so personal and impactful: “A song can define logic or time. A good song transports you to your truest feelings and translates those feelings for you. A good song stays with you, even when people or feelings don’t.” Regarding songwriting and her journey to getting where she is now, Swift said, “Writing songs is a calling, and getting to call it your career makes you very lucky. You have to be grateful every day for it and for all the people who thought your words might be worth listening to.” Swift then specifically thanked Nashville, where she got her start, saying, “This town is the school that taught me that. And to be honored by you means more than any genre of my lyrics could ever say. Thank you.” According to The Tennessean, the award of Songwriter-Artist of the Decade is based on metrics and “determined by chart success and the writer’s percentage of songwriting credit on each hit.” While Swift is the sole writer of over 50 songs including “Enchanted” and “Lover,” as reported by Billboard, she has songwriting credits on over 180 songs, and those are only the released ones. She also wrote or co-wrote her entire discography.  More News:
