What is Queens of Mystery?

Queens of Mystery is a mystery dramedy that follows Detective Matilda Stone (Florence Hall) and her three aunts as she solves murders in the small town of Wildemarsh where she grew up. Orphaned at a young age when her mother died under suspicious circumstances, Mattie’s three aunts stepped in and raised her. Her aunts are also popular mystery writers and insert themselves into Mattie’s cases with theories of their own. After spending time away, she returns to Wildemarsh, taking on a job as a police detective with the local constabulary.

Who’s in the cast of Queens of Mystery?

Florence Hall (Matilda “Mattie” Stone)

Matilda Stone is a police detective who returns to her hometown of Wildemarsh to take a job with the local police department. While great at solving mysteries, there’s one mystery she hasn’t been able to crack—the unsolved case of her mother’s disappearance. In season 1, the role of Matilda was originally played by Olivia Vinall.

Julie Graham (Cat Stone)

Cat Stone writes graphic novels about Roxanne Parker, a music industry fixer. She is the middle sister of the three Stone sisters. In her youth, Cat had her heart broken when she lost her love, Nikki Holler, when she died an untimely death. Graham has starred in such popular British shows as Midsomer Murders, The Bletchley Circle, Doctor Who and Broadchurch. She is married to a Belgian skydiving instructor named Davy Croket.

Siobhan Redmond (Jane Stone)

Jane Stone is the author of mystery novels featuring Henry Lambert, an android police detective. Jane had her heart broken when she was jilted on her wedding day. A member of the Royal Shakespeare Company, Redmond has guest starred in Doctor Who, Midsomer Murders and Grantchester. Dame Redmond was appointed the MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for her contributions to drama.

Sarah Woodward (Beth Stone)

Beth Stone is the most popular of the three mystery writer-sisters. Her novels follows the investigations of Iris Freeman, an inner-city vicar. Beth had her heart broken when her husband died from an illness. Woodward has appeared on stage opposite Kenneth Branagh, Derek Jacobi, Brenda Blethyn, Jim Broadbent and Imelda Staunton. On television she has guest starred on Poirot, Kingdom, Doctors and Law & Order UK.

Andrew Leung (Dr. Daniel Lynch)

Dr. Lynch is the local coroner. He and Matilda have a mutual (but unrequited) attraction. Leung most recently starred in Cruella and has had roles on Doctor Who, Dirk Gently and Quiz.

Martin Trenaman (Derek Thorne)

Thorne is Matilda’s boss and has been secretly in love with her Aunt Jane for years. While assertive in his job as police chief, he is anything but when it comes to matters of the heart. While he doesn’t declare his love for Jane out loud, we do get a glimpse into what he’s really thinking more than what he actually says. Trenaman is a writer and an actor having written for shows like Top Gear, Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Is It Bill Bailey? He’s appeared in such shows as The Inbetweeners, Doctors and Quiz.

Michael Elcock (Constable Terry Foster)

Terry is the younger brother of Mattie’s childhood friend and has had a crush on her since he first laid eyes on her all those years ago though Mattie is totally unaware of how he feels about her. This is Elcock’s first regular series role.

Julie Stevenson (Narrator)

Stevenson is probably best known for her role as Keira Knightley’s mom in Bend It Like Beckham or for her role opposite Alan Rickman in Truly, Madly, Deeply.
