The island of Manhattan and its surrounding boroughs have been under siege by an increasingly uncontrollable army of rodents, but you could soon become the people’s trojan horse. The mayor’s office published the listing for Director of Rodent Mitigation last week, calling for someone with a “swashbuckling attitude, crafty humor, and general aura of badassery,” who is “somewhat bloodthirsty,” to tackle the city’s “real enemy… [a] relentless rat population.” They may steal our hearts on social media, but rats also contribute to the spread of disease, cause property damage, and, in rare cases, they even take control of human line cooks. New York City rats? Well, according to the listing, they’re “cunning, voracious, and prolific,” not to mention “legendary for their survival skills.” The role will prove to be highly collaborative, working alongside the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Parks Department, NYCHA, Department of Education, Department of Sanitation, Department of Transportation, Small Business Services, and Mayor’s Office of Operations, and private sector partners as the “leader of the ‘Rat Pack.’” It will also require an open mind, branching out to find the right solutions including increasing operational efficiency, data collection, technology innovation, trash management, wholesale slaughter, and more. If you think you have what it takes to lead the charge and take back the city, you must submit a copy of your resume, a cover letter, and three references in order to apply. Applicants must be vaccinated against Covid-19 and willing to relocate to NYC within 90 days of being hired. More News:
