“These two terrific new dramas are off to a tremendous start,” said Kelly Kahl, President, CBS Entertainment. “They have significantly strengthened and improved our lineup on their respective nights and are generating huge increases on our streaming platforms as well. We applaud the talented producers, writers and casts on their compelling storytelling and performances, which are clearly resonating with viewers.” Here is everything we know so far about NCIS: Hawai’i, including cast, premiere date and spoilers.
NCIS: Hawai’i begins production with a blessing
NCIS: Hawai’i kicked off production on season 1 of the CBS series on Wednesday, June 16, at Mokulē‘Ia Beach on Oahu with a traditional Hawaiian blessing. Kahu (Officiant) Ramsay Taum officiated the ceremony, which included traditional royal maile leis, Oli Aloha (welcoming chant) and Pule Ho’oku’u (closing prayer). In honor of the show’s premiere season, the ceremony centered on the constant motion of the ocean and how the moving ocean waters, driven by the winds and tides, connects the entire planet. Series stars Vanessa Lachey, Noah Mills, Jason Antoon, Yasmine Al-Bustami and Tori Anderson, as well as the producers and the crew, participated.
When does NCIS: Hawai’i premiere?
NCIS: Hawai’i premiered on Monday, Sept. 20 on CBS.
Will there be a crossover between NCIS: Hawai’i and NCIS?

Watch the video to see what cast members from each show have to say.
Who is in the NCIS: Hawai’i cast?
NCIS: Hawai’i will be the first of the NCIS shows to be headed by a woman. NCIS stars Mark Harmon as Special Agent Leroy Gibbs, NCIS: Los Angeles stars Chris O’Donnell and LL Cool J as Special Agents G. Callen and Sam Hanna, respectively, and the now-canceled NCIS: New Orleans was helmed by Scott Bakula as Special Agent Dwayne Pride.
Vanessa Lachey
Vanessa Lachey is the lead in the series, with Yasmine Al-Bustami and Jason Antoon also cast. Lachey has many roles under her belt, but you may recognize her from another CBS show, as she was in the Hawaii Five-0 reboot. She also co-hosts Love Is Blind with her husband Nick Lachey. Lachey will star as Jane Tennant, the first woman SAC of NCIS: Hawaii. According to Variety, Tennant is described as being “as diplomatic as she is hard-charging.” Despite being a woman in a male-dominated profession, she’s “thrived in a system that’s pushed back every step of the way through equal parts confidence and strategy.” In her personal life, Tennant is raising her kids on her own for the most part. She apparently balances the duty to both her children and her country masterfully The closest the franchise has come to date to having a woman in charge was the backdoor pilot for NCIS: Red, which co-starred Kim Raver and John Corbett, but it did not get picked up to series.
Alex Tarrant as Kai Holman
Kai is a native of Hawaii who left the island to join the Marines, but returned to care for his ailing father.
Yasmine Al-Bustami
Al-Bustami will play Lucy. “Confident in the way that reflects a lifetime of achievement and youthful enthusiasm, Lucy is the junior member of Tennant’s NCIS team,” Variety reports. “She is eager to be the first one to find that key piece of evidence, create a workaround in the bureaucracy, or tackle a suspect down a flight of stairs.”
Jason Antoon
Antoon will play Ernie, NCIS’ Cyber Intelligence Specialist. “Ernie is a polyglot with a keen mind for technology, history, literature and all things Hawaiian,” according to Variety. “He’s an essential component of the team, who can trace an anonymous ip address or profile a suspect using only their social media footprint. Ernie doesn’t have family on the island so he’s invited himself to join his Team’s families.”
Noah Mills
The newest addition to the cast is Noah Mills, who is playing a big-city homicide detective who has relocated to Hawaii. According to Variety, Jesse is “an expert interrogator with knack for good old fashioned police work, but Jesse’s also a devoted family man who runs 4-H camping trips for his kid. He knows every nook and cranny of the island’s hiking trails. He’s worked with Tennant (Lachey) the longest and is her lieutenant and sometimes confidant.”
Tori Anderson as Kate Whistler
Kate will act as the go-between between the NCIS team and the Defense Intelligence Agency.
Kian Talan as Alex Tennant
Alex is the the oldest of Jane’s children
Are there any NCIS: Hawai’i spoilers?
Per CBS, the show will feature the first female Special Agent in Charge. She will be based at NCIS Pearl Harbor as she and her team balance duty to family and country, investigating high-stakes crimes involving military personnel, national security and the mysteries of the island itself. “When we first meet Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant, her brilliance and compassion are on full display when, after being pulled away from coaching her daughter’s soccer team, she heads to the North Shore to lead an investigation into a top secret Navy program,” executive producers Matt Bosack, Jan Nash and Christopher Silber told with TVLine. “We can’t wait for viewers to get to know her and her team this September.” Also, TV Guide reports that “cases include the murder of a Navy recruiter and a sophisticated heist crew stealing from the government. Another crime involves NCIS with cowboys—which adds weapons training on horseback to Lachey’s to-do list. She’s already done big fight scenes and dodged bullets underwater in the ocean at night.”
