We head to the bowling alley in this week’s installment of Ms. Fisher’s Modern Mysteries. In “Death Alley,” the leader of a teen gang winds up dead, his severed head rolling up the ball chute and a relative of Violetta’s (Louise Mignone) is a prime suspect. As they investigate the murder, Peregrine (Geraldine Hakewill) and James (Joel Jackson) find themselves in the middle of a gang war between the Mods and the Rockers. As they try to maintain a professional relationship during the investigation, tensions increase between the two over James’ relationship with Sally (Emma Hamilton), his childhood sweetheart. With James’ boss, Chief Inspector Sparrow (Greg Stone) nudging him toward Sally, James realizes Sally is closer to the more traditional wife material he originally imagined for himself. As Peregine and James uncover the murderer and the secret life that triggered the crime, they both begin to contemplate the cost of living a life of regret.
