Ramin Setoodeh, the co-editor-in-chief for Variety, tweeted the moment, writing, “The standing ovation for #TheWhale was so enthusiastic, Brendan Fraser tried to leave the theater but the crowd’s applause made him stay. #Venezia79” The Rock came across the video and quickly shared his gratitude for the actor. “Man this makes me so happy to see this beautiful ovation for Brendan,” he wrote. He continued: “He supported me coming into his Mummy Returns franchise for my first ever role, which kicked off my Hollywood career. Rooting for all your success brother and congrats to my bud Darren Aronofsky. #TheWhale” According to Variety, Fraser spoke with journalists at a press conference ahead of the premiere where he opened up about what it was like to film the movie. Throughout the duration of the film, Fraser can be seen wearing a prosthetic suit for the role, which was also accompanied by some CGI. He noted that he “developed muscles" he didn’t know he had. “I even felt a sense of vertigo at the end of the day when all the appliances were removed; it was like stepping off the dock onto a boat in Venice," he said. “That [sense of] undulating. It gave me appreciation for those whose bodies are similar. You need to be an incredibly strong person, mentally and physically, to inhabit that physical being,” he added. The film follows Fraser, an isolated writing instructor who is struggling to reconnect with his daughter, Ellie, who is played by Stranger Things star Sadie Sink. The film marks the actor’s return to Hollywood following a length break, along with his first leading role since the 2013 film, Breakout. He is also set to appear in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, which is expected to premiere in 2023. The Whale will be making its way to the Toronto International Film Festival next from Sept. 8 through Sept. 18. It will be released theatrically in the United States on Dec. 9. More Pop Culture:
