For the Relay Dances, the couples are broken down into three groups of three with the winner of each earning extra bonus points from the judges, given to the couple they feel performs the best within each relay. The Relay Dances will consist of the Jive, the Foxtrot and the Viennese Waltz. Fitness instructor Cody Rigsbyis one competitor who is very much looking forward to Queen Night during which he and pro partner Cheryl Burke will dance the Foxtrot to “You’re My Best Friend.” “As a queen, I am very much a Queen fan,” he said. “It’s going to be a really great song for us because of the story that I hope to tell, not only through the dance but through the package. It is something super personal and I’m excited to share with the world.” Cody labels Queen’s music “iconic” and says he discovered the band while he was in high school. “They are so embedded in our culture that even if you might not love a song, you know it, because it’s been played so many times. I think that there’s always going to be a connection to that music. I’m so excited to also honor another queer man, another gay man, on this stage so I’m super excited for next week.” Amanda Kloots, who is dancing the Jive to “Don’t Stop Me Now” with pro partner Alan Bersten, has a personal connection to her song. “This is a song that I play all the time when I teach fitness classes,” she said. “It’s a song that immediately revs you up. It’s a song that we put on week one just to fool around and work on steps that Alan was teaching me. This is the dance I’ve always wanted to do. I think it will show a lot of my personality, and I think we actually will have a lot of fun doing it together.” And pro dancer Witney Carson, who is paired with The Mizfor a Foxtrot to “Radio Ga Ga” is also looking forward to dancing to the iconic band’s music. “We’re just really excited to pay homage to them,” she said. “We’re going to keep it inspired by Freddie Mercury and try to do our best to do it justice.”
